St. Augustine Waterways - Things To Do On The Water In St Augustine, Florida, America's Oldest City
-
Kayaking and Paddleboarding: Whether you’re looking to glide through the peaceful Salt Run or explore the biodiversity of the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve, there’s a variety of options to choose for paddling. Rentals and guided tours are available, making it easy for everyone to get on the water.
-
Boat Tours: St Augustine boat tours will give you a view of the historic city from a different perspective. From pirate-themed adventures to serene sunset cruises, there’s a boat for every mood. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and manatees which are very commonly photographed playfully following alongside the boats.
-
Jet Skis: Jet skiing in St Augustine is one of the greatest thrill seeking adventures due to the unique landscape of the water here in our area. Right over by the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument (commonly referred to as ‘The Fort’) are several back channels that you can take on a Jet Ski that take you right along the coast line. Or, you can continue further out and ride into Crescent Beach. Suggestion: Stay in the middle of the water and take your time, as sandbars can be a little tricky. It’s preferred, for our area, that you jet ski during high tide. There’s several places to rent jet skis in St Augustine, but definitely be sure to check out the Marina at the Conch House. What makes this perfect is you can go out for a ride on the personal watercraft, then come back and have a bite to eat up in the cabanas that overlook the water!
-
Inshore Fishing: The Intracoastal Waterway is teeming with redfish, trout, flounder, and snook. Charter a boat with a local guide for an insider’s chance at the Northeast Florida Slam – catching redfish, flounder, and trout in one trip.
-
Pier and Surf Fishing: For those who prefer to keep their feet on land, the St. Johns County Ocean Pier is a hotspot. It’s not just about catching fish here; it’s about the experience, the community, and watching the world go by. And don’t forget the beaches – surf fishing at places like Vilano Beach or Crescent Beach offers a chance to catch pompano, whiting, and more.
-
Deep Sea Adventures: If you’re looking to venture further, deep-sea fishing charters can take you after the big ones – think snapper, mahi-mahi, or even a tarpon if the stars align. The summer months are particularly vibrant for those looking to reel in king mackerel.
-
Beach Activities: Play some beach volleyball at St. Augustine Beach (located right at the St Augustine Beach Pier) or grab a skim board and hit up the hard-packed sands of Vilano Beach. If you’re visiting with kids, the splash park at the St. Augustine Beach Pier is a must-visit for the family.
-
Nature and Wildlife: Anastasia State Park is a gem where you can enjoy both the beach and a nature trail, offering a chance to spot various birds, perhaps even a bald eagle or an osprey. Remember, wildlife watching here can be as thrilling as the fishing.
